Retrofits - Do not be fooled by clever marketing

In today's market, companies are vying for your patronage and money. With climate change exacerbating our existence, and pandemics affecting personal, and social health, dishonest marketing has been found attempting to scare you.

Did you know that Toronto is the world's leading market in fan coil usage? Due to our climate and maximum spectrum of temperature change (flexing between 80-100C annually) a boiler and chiller system supplying energy to fan coils are the most economic way to heat residential buildings.

With nearly 2 decades of industry experience, JPS Canada is familiar with all the manufacturers and models of GTA condominium fan coil systems. We have installed it all, we have seen it all. We want to assure you that your most reputable connection to a fan coil is through JPS Canada which will make your money have value. We are not in the business of selling fan coil units, we are in the business of providing comfort and safety to you and your family in your condominium.

We are recently aware of certain misleading tactics taking place in the marketplace, and we want to dispel a number of myths that you may have heard:

  1. Mold was found in your unit, you need to retrofit it to new or remediate the mold
This is not a point-blank statement, and even JPS technicians cannot tell you the mold found is dangerous. That's why we have partners who are certified research labs that can test and tell about your mold. What we can say is if you have lived with mold in your fan coil for years and years, and do not suffer from congestion, headaches, or heightened allergies, the mold is probably not dangerous. We will never use mold as a scare tactic for sales, and make sure you are properly informed of the realities.

  2. The unit must be replaced by the same manufacturer
This is extremely misleading. The engineering in condos is strictly controlled by Ontario Building Code, and a fan coil is to be replaced "like for like" meaning the design of the unit has a specific BTU and fan CFM requirement based on the suite size, and layout, ducting, etc. There are several players in the GTA fan coil market, and we have worked with them all. We have our favorites based on build quality and supply chain management and employment of local manufacturing. We will install whatever you want, but we can honestly say that the solution for your building lies in understanding the building itself, and not what the label on the unit says. Trust our experience to help you navigate to the best solution.

  3. The unit must be maintained by manufacturer or contractor.
Maintenance service is technically not the correct term since nothing is serviced in the unit at this time. Seasonal operation is checked, the filter is replaced, the drain pan is inspected and cleaned to prevent condensate overflow during the humid summer season. No real maintenance is performed during this service, no parts are actually serviceable or require any upkeep in units made in last 30yrs. If something is found to be not working, clients should book directly with our office. Additionally, some service outfits may also tell you that only their company can maintain the unit, which is a complete lie. All fancoils use standard types of parts that are widely available from HVAC suppliers. Schedule service for replacement of broken components.
